CHAIRPERSON'S MESSAGE
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As a woman, a farmer, and a member of a cooperative, it is both an honor and a responsibility to serve as the elected Chairperson of the Integrated Institute of Research and Development (IIRD). I am deeply proud to represent fellow farmers, associations, and cooperatives engaged in agriculture, environment, water and sanitation, and health promotion initiatives.
My commitment is clear: to champion the creativity, resilience, and hard work of vulnerable people, women, minority communities, and persons with disabilities. Together, we ensure that every group has a voice in shaping the plans, projects, and governance of IIRD, so that our communities move toward greater socio-economic security, self-reliance, and dignity in sustainable development.
We know too well the challenges faced by grassroots farmers across countries, such as: unpredictable weather patterns, water scarcity, soil degradation, food insecurity, and health concerns. However, challenges must also be seen as opportunities; opportunities for smarter solutions and innovative practices. By blending traditional wisdom with modern technologies, we can grow more food, fight hunger, and protect our environment, all while ensuring that no one is left behind.
For example, smart irrigation helps us save precious water; cover crops restore and protect our soils, and renewable energy powers farming operations sustainably. These methods not only increase resilience during harsh climate events but also create jobs, improve market access, and strengthen rural economies.
The task ahead of us requires unity and collective effort. By working hand in hand, we can empower farmers, safeguard health, and protect our environment. I deeply appreciate the dedication of every member, partner, and supporter of IIRD who shares this vision.
Together, we will continue building inclusive, knowledge-driven solutions that uplift communities and sustain our planet.
Thank you.
Clémentine Batamuliza
